Pregnancy and Substance Abuse
About Drugs & Alcohol During Pregnancy
Pregnancy and substance abuse never mix. It is extremely important that one realizes the implications of pregnancy and substance abuse. When a woman is pregnant, it is no longer only about that person and what they want. There is another person inside her body and they are actually eating, drinking and breathing for two people. Now this all may be very simple to understand, however, it seems many individuals do not tend to grasp the fact that no baby should be subjected to pregnancy and substance abuse as they will be forced to consume the drugs and alcohol put inside the body as well.
In regards to pregnancy and substance abuse, it is important to remember not to even smoke. Smoking actually blocks much of the nourishment the baby needs to develop in addition to forcing the baby to consume carcinogens as well as the nicotine for the cigarettes.
In addition to smoking, consuming alcohol while pregnant is another thing that must be avoided as this can and has developed many cases of still or pre-mature birth, as well as fetal alcohol syndrome in many cases in addition to many behavioral problems once the baby is born as well as physical problems which may last a lifetime due to their mother’s pregnancy and substance abuse issues.
It is imperative that illegal drugs are not used while a woman is going through her pregnancy. These types of substances can cause many different types of birth defects, having an underweight baby, as well as actual withdrawal symptoms in the baby after they have been born. This is all due to pregnancy and substance abuse.
In addition to the actual usage of drugs and alcohol during pregnancy, there are other problems associated with these types of activities such as the behaviors which normally accompany illicit drug use and more such as improper nourishment for the baby as well as possibly physical harm to the baby due to actual harmful physical activities.
There is so much still to be learned about the effects of pregnancy and substance abuse of drugs such as ecstasy, as well as other related drugs and amphetamines and it is simply the best choice to allow the baby to have a healthy beginning to life where they, too, may have the same types of choices we all may have during pregnancy.
Problems such as birth defects and more related to pregnancy and substance abuse can all be prevented.
The main thing to do is to simply stop using any types of drugs or alcohol during pregnancy.
